The Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve was established in 1920. It has the status of an especially valuable cultural heritage site of the peoples of the Russian Federation. The core of the museum’s collection is formed by the art works of the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius — items of church art, including the donations of Russian sovereigns: icons in precious frames, gimped and ornamental embroidery, church utensils, old printed books, manuscripts, precious vestments. The museum’s collection consists of more than 190 thousand items: along with the collection of church art of the 11th — early 20th century, the museum holds one of the largest in Russia collections of Russian folk and decorative arts of the 17th — 21st centuries, paintings, graphics, numismatics, archaeological artefacts, documents and photographs.
