The Museum of Military and Labor Glory was established by order of the Government of Saratov Oblast on May 6, 1999. Before that, since 1982, it had been a branch of the Saratov Regional Museum of Local Lore. The museum houses more than 26 thousand exhibits, including relics related to the life and work of Saratov residents, participants of the Great Patriotic War, Heroes of the Soviet Union, home front workers, participants of local wars and armed conflicts.
Nowadays, the museum presents the permanent exhibition “Tragedy and Feat. The 20th Century”, which was opened on May 9, 2001 and a unique open-air exhibition of military equipment and weapons in the Volga region. In addition, the museum has opened the exhibition “Labor Glory of Saratov Oblast”, which was prepared for the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, as well as the exhibition “Mercy Train” in a wagon of an army hospital train.
The museum welcomes more than 150 thousand people every year. The exhibition of military equipment is particularly fascinating. It presents more than 200 units of guns and combat vehicles from different regions of Russia, including rarities from the battlefields that were discovered by search groups. These are artillery missile systems, armored vehicles, airplanes and helicopters.
The museum is actively working on acquiring new exhibits. It collects, processes and analyzes incoming museum items. The museum houses more than 26,000 units. Among them are memorial collections of materials about outstanding soldiers and scientists. The museum holds scientific and research seminars, conferences, special events and other activities, and even publishes scientific collections.
