Primorye Art Gallery is the leading museum of fine arts in Primorsky Krai and one of the largest in the Russian Far East.
The unique collection had been brought together several decades before the gallery was established in Vladivostok. Its story began in 1929 when the Vladivostok State Regional Museum set up a department of fine arts. It received paintings from the storerooms of the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Hermitage Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts (now known as the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts). The museum’s rapid development and valuable exhibits led to the founding of the Primorye Art Gallery in 1966.
Nowadays, the Primorye State Art Gallery houses paintings, drawings, sculptures, ancient icons, and rare books.
The gallery hosts exhibitions of famous Russian painters, as well as European and Asian artists.
