A literary and memorial museum dedicated to the life and work of Ivan Bunin, opened in Oryol on December 10, 1991. It is located in an old noble mansion in the same part of the city where the writer himself lived at the end of the 19th century.
The collection of the museum is based on the largest Bunin collection in Russia, amounting to more than five thousand genuine exhibits: iconography, manuscripts, letters, documents, books, pieces of furniture and personal belongings of the writer. Most of this collection consists of materials from the pre-revolutionary archive of Ivan Bunin, which were donated to the Oryol Literary Museum by the widow of the writer’s nephew Klavdia Pusheshnikova.
