Omsk State Dostoevsky Literary Museum was opened on January 28, 1983. It occupied one of the city’s oldest buildings constructed in 1799 for commandants of the Omsk Fortress.
The central part of the museum’s exhibition is dedicated to the life and works of Fyodor Dostoevsky and, mostly, his Omsk exile with regard to the case of the Petrashevsky Circle (1850–1854). A great number of exhibits represent the history of Siberian literature.
The museum hosts various events for visitors of all ages. Exhibitions, literary presentations, readings, meetings with writers, themed literary gatherings, and conferences take place here. In recent years, traditional activities carried out by the museum were complemented with self-developed quest tours, original programs, and classes in regional studies focused on literature.
