The National Museum of the Udmurt Republic Named After Kuzebay Gerd is located in the former building of Izhevsk arms factory’s Arsenal, an industrial architecture monument of the first quarter of the 19th century. Architect Semen Dudin designed the building in the high classicism style. The museum is named after Kuzebay Gerd, the Udmurt poet, playwright, educator, and political activist.
The Executive Committee of the Izhevsk City Council opened the museum as a regional Izhevsk museum in November 1920. The museum’s collection exceeds 200,000 exhibits. The museum features unique collections of historical, archaeological, and ethnographic artifacts, a collection of bladed weapons and firearms, collections of photographs and written sources, and a natural science collection.
