The National Museum of the Republic of Adygea was founded in Krasnodar in 1925. Materials found by members of the Society of Study of Adyghe Autonomous Region, such as traditional costumes, jewelry, and weapons, became its first exhibits. Late 1930s the museum already had more than 2,800 exhibits, the main part of which was collected during expeditions organized by its first Director Ibrahim Navruzov, and the museum was relocated to Maykop where it functions at present.
Every year the museum holds almost twenty exhibitions that present the history of Adygea, its traditions, and famous members of its art and scientific community. The collection contains more than 300,000 exhibits, including archeological findings, unique precious metals, ancient jewelry, national musical instruments and works of art.
