The Sakha Republic National Art Museum (Yakutia) is the largest art institution of the region. The museum houses works by both foreign and Russian artists of the 16th–20th centuries, and an extensive collection of the art of Yakutia of the 18th — early 21st century is presented. The basis of the museum’s collection were 27 paintings from the funds of the State Tretyakov Gallery, donated to the republic in 1928.
The value of the collection is
given by the names of such famous artists as Vasily Tropinin, Ivan Aivazovsky,
Ivan Shishkin, Arkhip Kuindzhi, Vasily Polenov, and Isaac Levitan. The Russian
art section includes a unique collection of folk craft objects, such as the
Kholmogory bone carvings, Dymkovo and Filimonovo toys, lacquer miniatures, silk
paintings and more. The most important part of the museum’s collection is the
art of Yakutia, which includes paintings, graphics, sculptures and decorative
and applied artworks.
