Karabikha is located 15 kilometers south of Yaroslavl. It is the only palace-type estate in the Yaroslavl region, which has survived since the second half of the 18th century.
Until the mid-19th century, the estate was owned by the princely Golitsyn family. In the early 1860s it was acquired by the poet Nikolay Alexeyevich Nekrasov.
From 1862 to 1875, Nikolay Alexeyevich spent the summer months at the estate, where he created the poems “Kalistrat”, “Orina, the Soldier’s Mother”, “Grandfather Mazay and the Hares” and others. In the estate he worked on the poems “Gramdfather Frost, the Red Nose”, “Grandfather”, “Russian Women”, as well as on the chapters of the poems “Contemporaries” and “Who is happy in Russia?”.
A memorial museum was established on the estate in 1946, and in 1987 it was transformed into the State Literary and Memorial Museum-Reserve of Nikolay Nekrasov “Karabikha”.
