The Kolokolnikov Estate is the only surviving classical merchant estate in Tyumen. The facade of the building combines elements of neoclassicism, Baroque and traditional Tyumen carving. The interiors create a unified stylistic space: a luxurious hall, the walls of which are decorated with picturesque portraits of the Kolokolnikov family, and a shop.
The permanent exhibition of the museum — “The House’s History in the 19th–20th centuries” — is devoted to the history of the merchant families Ikonnikov and Kolokolnikov, as well as historical events that took place in this house. One of which happened in 1837, when the future Emperor Alexander II with the great Russian poet Vasily Andreyevich Zhukovsky as part of his retinue visited the house. In 1919, this was where the headquarters of Marshal Vasily Blyukher was located.
On the second floor of the estate, visitors can find themselves in the merchant’s living room, where they can fully enjoy the interior of the house and appreciate the view that opens from the mezzanine to the shop windows.
The permanent exhibition “Ivan Kolokolnikov Trading House. Heirs” presents a generalized image of Tyumen’s large shops and retail stores at the turn of the 20th century. One of these establishments belonged to the Kolokolnikovs themselves. There, they sold tea sugar and other colonial goods.
