The museum is designed to commemorate the names of the legendary Arctic explorers born in the Republic of Bashkortostan. One of them was Valerian Ivanovich Albanov, a native of Ufa whose life became an inspiration for the hero of the famous novel “Two Captains”.
Valerian Albanov undertook an unparalleled voyage through the drifting ice of the Arctic Ocean and survived Georgy Brusilov’s tragic polar expedition.
The museum tells of the unique nature of the Arctic from the Paleolithic era to the present day, of the traditions and ways of life of the northern peoples, their mythology and culture. Part of the museum’s exhibits are authentic items, books, documents and instruments of polar explorers, brought as gifts to the museum from expeditions.
The museum has modern interactive facilities: projections, information kiosks and a movie theater which holds screenings of documentaries and feature films.
