The museum was opened in Tula on September 19, 1997. It houses the largest collection of works by Porfiry Krylov — People’s Artist of the USSR, academician of painting, honorary citizen of the city of Tula. His paintings and graphics reflect the different stages of his long artistic journey.
Porfiry Nikitich Krylov was a member of the “Kukryniksy” artistic group and an outstanding and original artist. More than 1,500 of his works, documents and memorabilia were donated to the museum by the artist himself and his sons.
The museum’s exhibition presents paintings by Porfiry Krylov dedicated to his hometown and its surroundings, the historical beauty of European cities, members of the artist’s family, exquisite floral still lifes and the era of the Great Patriotic War.
The Porfiry Krylov Museum is especially focused on the younger generation: creative workshops, lectures, concerts and master classes are held for kids and schoolchildren.
