The Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812 was opened in the anniversary year of 2012. The museum occupies a two-storeyed pavilion erected on the territory of the State Historical Museum under the project by the architectural workshop led by P. Yu. Andreyev. The total area of the exhibition halls is about 2000 m².
It was planned to create a museum dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812 back in 1912. For this purpose, enthusiasts even raised money. But then a separate building was never built, the exposition was located at the premises belonging to the Historical Museum.
After the revolution, the collection was disbanded, but then restored. Today, it comprises more than two thousand exhibits.
