The Sevastopol Defense Museum is the largest museum in the city, a center for the study of Sevastopol’s history from its foundation in 1783 to the present day.
Museum began with the Sevastopol Panorama “Assault on June 6, 1855”, opened in 1905 for the 50th anniversary of the city’s defense during the Crimean War of 1853-1856. Destroyed during the Great Patriotic War, in 1954 the Panorama was recreated under the new title “Defense of Sevastopol 1854-1855.”
The exhibition also presents household items, weapons, awards. Today the museum includes open exhibitions and historical monuments on the territory of the city, including the Diorama “Assault of the Sapun mountain on May 7, 1944”, the defensive tower of the Malakhov Kurgan, the Cathedral of St. Prince Vladimir with the tomb of famous admirals and the Museum’s Cultural and Exhibition Center.
