Residents of the village of Izhevskoye decided to create a museum dedicated to Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, because it was here that the founder of theoretical cosmonautics was born. Here, for the first time, he saw the sky and the stars, and wondered how far away they were and if they could be reached. The museum opened on September 17, 1967, the 110th anniversary of Tsiolkovsky’s birthday. The first exhibit was a letter from astronaut Yuri Gagarin.
At first the museum worked on a pro bono basis, then became a branch of the Ryazan Museum-Reserve, and then — an independent institution. In 2007, the house in which Tsiolkovsky was born became part of it.
In the Tsiolkovsky museum you can find out how the Russian cosmonautics was conceived and developed, and what place humans occupy in Space. Tourists from other cities and countries come here.
