The Museum of Islamic Culture is dedicated to the history and culture of Muslim peoples inhabiting the Urals and the Volga region.
Two museum halls occupy 566 square meters in the basement of the Kul Sharif mosque, construction and opening of which coincided with the millennium anniversary of Kazan. The Museum of Islamic Culture welcomed its first visitors on February 21, 2006.
The mission of the museum is to conduct active research, academic and educational work. Its staff regularly replenish their collection with museum pieces, study them and present them to the public. The museum exhibitions explain the contribution of the Tatar people to the entire Islamic art and education. They also show how Muslim culture and written traditions have influenced the formation of the Tatar people and ethnic identity. The museum display was updated in April 2014.
