F. M. Reshetnikov Museum is located in a house that was built in 1840–1841 for merchant Fyodor Karnaukhov. Mailmen lived here in the late 19th century. Natalia Kalinovskaya, the postmaster’s wife, rented the rooms to the workers.
Literary expert Ivan Dergachev believed that Ural writer Fyodor Reshetnikov was born and lived in this house; thus a museum was established here. The house became a historic site. The museum was opened in 1991. Lydia Khudyakova, Irina Stepanova and Irina Kirnosova developed the museum concept. In 1993, the team received an Onésime Clerc Award. In 2014, the exposition was expanded. The museum’s staff arranged the expansion under the guidance of Larisa Kataeva; Sophia Prokhorenko was in charge of the design.
