The Museum of the 112th Bashkir (16th Guards) Cavalry Division was opened on May 8, 2005 in honor of the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The museum is a branch of the Republican Museum of Military Glory.
The exhibition is dedicated to the history and combat path of the legendary 112th Bashkir (16th Guards) Cavalry Division from the first days of its formation. The 112th Bashkir Cavalry Division was established in November 1941 at the Dyoma railway station. Under the command of Major General Minigali Shaymuratov, the division won a number of victories on the Bryansk, Voronezh, Southwestern Fronts, as well as in the brutal fighting of the Battle of Stalingrad. For the heroism shown during the war, the division was awarded “Guards” status and renamed the 16th Guards Cavalry Division. It took part in the Chernigov-Pripyat Offensive Operation (for its great performance in which it was awarded the title of Chernigovskaya) the Battle of the Dnieper, the liberation of Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, as well as in the East Pomeranian and Berlin strategic operations. The division was commended as distinguished in battles 15 times in the orders of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. Orders and medals were awarded to 3,860 soldiers of the division, including 78 who became Heroes of the Soviet Union, and five — Full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory.
The Museum of the 112th Bashkir (16th Guards) Cavalry Division engages in patriotic educational activities for young people, by teaching them about the legendary division. Preschool and school-age children, students, representatives of public and veterans’ organizations actively participate in the museum’s events.
