The Mordovian Republican United Museum of Local History named after I.D. Voronin was founded in 1918. Currently, in addition to the central building in Saransk, the Mordovian Museum of Local History has nine branches keeping more than 182,000 artifacts. Excursions, thematic lectures and scientific conferences are held at the museum sites.
The main exhibition consists of 10 collections. Tourists can see church paraphernalia, paintings and graphic works of famous artists, sculptures, artifacts of applied arts, antique furniture, and many other valuable exhibits.

A significant role in the museum funds belongs to the ethnographic collection, describing the diversity of culture and life of the peoples living in different periods of history on the territory of Mordovia.
