Literary Memorial Museum of I.A. Bunin was the first in the country, and it opened on June 4, 1988, in Yelets, a city in Lipetsk province. It quickly became well-known not only in Russia but all over the world.
The museum is located in a well-preserved house of Rostovtseva, a petty bourgeoise, where Ivan Bunin lived in lodgings as a student of the Yelets male gymnasium in the 1880s. Reconstructed interiors of the Bunin time, textbooks and writing materials for gymnasium students, photographs and postcards of old Yelets, depicted by the writer in his works, a copy of the Nobel Prize, editions brought out during his lifetime, personal belongings including a Belgian hunting rifle and a suitcase with which he traveled to Stockholm in 1933, all this is a matter of intrinsic interest to us.
The museum helps you look into the distant past and get in touch with Ivan Bunin’s personality and his works, creating the possibility to get to know his books better.
