The museum preserve ‘Kuznetsk Fortress’ is located on VoznesEnskaya hill in the city of NovokuznEtsk. It was founded back in 1991 for the study and protection of a fortified cultural heritage site, Kuznetsk fortress.
The museum, that is about 21 ha in area, comprises a fortress, architectural structures and military fortifications, natural-historic landmarks and archaeological monuments. Apart from listed buildings, natural monuments are available, e.g., a waterfall in a narrow canyon near one of the redoubts.
The permanent exhibition relates to the military history of the region displaying artefacts found in excavations of Kuznetsk ostrOg, rare pieces of weaponry, household items from the Russian settlement, and to the history of fortification lines and Kuznetsk prison castle that was located inside the fortress.
