Krasnodar State Historical and Archaeological Memorial Museum-Reserve named after E.D. Felitsyn is the oldest cultural institution and one of the first museums in North Caucasus. Its history began in 1879, when Yevgeny Felitsyn, the specialist in local history and lieutenant colonel of the Kuban Cossack Host founded the Kuban Military Heritage and Natural History Museum. The artworks donated by the residents of Yekaterinodar and Felitsyn’s collection were the first exhibits of the museum.
Today the permanent exhibition of the museum involves the entire history of Krasnodar Krai — from the resettlement of the Cossacks to the Kuban up to the present times. In addition, the visitors can see archaeological findings from the sites where ancient cities used to be, and get acquainted with the flora and fauna of North Caucasus.
