Originally conceived as the cherished dream of one person, the Vyacheslav Gromov Museum of Local Lore became a cultural monument of natural importance.
The Vyacheslav Gromov Museum of Local Lore was opened in the town of Sergach, Nizhny Novgorod Region, on May 7, 1967. Later, it was transferred to an old stone building — the house of the Vysokosov merchant. In 1984, the organization received the title of a national museum, and in 1988, it was awarded a diploma by the regional culture department. Since 1992, it has had the status of a state museum.
The museum was founded by Vyacheslav Andreyevich Gromov. He was born in Sergach in 1919 and, after graduating from a pedagogical college, worked as a primary school teacher. After the Great Patriotic War, Lieutenant Gromov returned to Sergach and worked at a local school for 30 years. He fulfilled his lifelong dream by establishing the Museum of Local Lore.
Nowadays, the museum features nine halls. In addition to the main exhibitions, it hosts art exhibitions, cultural events, meetings with celebrities, theater productions, and field trips.
Museum curators conduct research, are open to the possibility of cooperation, and contribute to the education of young people. The museum is actively engaged in working with the district library and children’s art schools.
