The Komi-Permyak Local History Museum is named after Pyotr Ivanovich Subbotin-Permyak, an artist, ethnographer and teacher, who founded the museum on July 30, 1921. Today its collection includes over 86,000 exhibits, from pagan amulets to secular portraits of the 19th century, from a plait ornament (nakosnik) and an ear spoon (kopoushka) to the Gospel and the first ABC book in the Komi Permyak language.
The museum’s modern exhibitions with multimedia sections feature the nature, unique culture and history of the people of the Kama region. The collection of the Permian Komi Museum includes artworks of the Perm animal style, Sassanian silver, wooden sculpture, miniatures by Andrey Voronikhin, paintings by the avant-garde artist Pyotr Subbotin-Permyak, portraits of the Stroganov landowners painted by serfs, woodblocks for textile printing, folk headdresses and woven belts, documentary archives, icons and household objects of the Komi-Permyak people.
