Kirov Regional Museum of Local History opened in 1863. After the revolution, a scientific library and a natural-science laboratory began to work under its auspices. Today the museum annually receives more than two hundred thousand visitors, holds scientific expeditions, exhibitions, lectures and readings.
In 2014, a new department was opened — “Museum of Military Glory” the exhibition of which is dedicated to the contribution of the Kirov region to the Great Victory. The enemy did not reach the Kirov region, but the region supplied weapons and military equipment, food and military uniforms to the front, Kirov treated and nursed the wounded in hospitals, gave shelter to evacuees. Guests to the museum will hear about the front and rear exploits of the residents of the Kirov region.
