The Kasimov Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve is one of the oldest museums in the Ryazan Region. It was founded in 1919 when the Soviet government nationalized noble estates in the vicinity of Kasimov.
Then, the Museum Sub-Department was founded under the District Department of Public Education, which received objects of everyday life, manuscripts and art treasures from the estates. Later, the Department was transformed into the Kasimov museum which opened its doors to visitors in 1921.
The exhibit shows the history of the Kasimov District. Here one can find a Russian peasant costume, the armchair of the Kasimov empress Fatima, rare church polychrome sculptures of the 17th—18th centuries, furniture from noble estates, Vyrkovo toys and an autograph of the writer Vasily Zhukovsky.
