The Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Art was founded in 1946.
The museum staff has managed to collect extensive material over the years, especially on the subject of the Great Patriotic War. Since 1968, two military history branches — “Dugout” and “Command Post of the 43rd Army” — were opened within a few years, followed by the branch “Fort No. 5”.
The new branches and collections, including those of art, changed the profile of the regional museum. In 1977, it became a history and art museum. In 1984, the Sculpture Park was opened in the open air on Kneiphof Island.
