Kaliningrad Regional Museum of Fine Arts opened in 1988. Today the pieces by official painters and underground artists of 1950-1990-s form the basis of its collection. The underground representatives rejected realism in art and developed their own artistic language.

Paintings and graphics of the authors from the Baltic Region constitute a significant portion of the collection. They are pieces by local contemporary artists combined with the heritage of East Prussia.

he museum is cooperating actively with the Hermitage, State Russian Museum, State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and Tretyakov Gallery.

Today the museum is situated in the building of former Konigsberg Commercial Exchange, which has the status of a monument of the 19th century architecture and is considered one of the city symbols.
