The Ivanovo State Museum of Local History named after Dmitry Burylin can boast one of the best collections of rare items in Russia. It presents the outstanding, detailed and unique collections of “rarities and antiques” amassed by its founder Dmitry Gennadievich Burylin — a famous Ivanovo-Voznesensk philanthropist, a collector and an enlightener.
The museum with a century-long history houses over 780,000 exhibits dated from antiquity to modern times. The museum complex includes several departments: the Museum of Industry and Art, the Museum of Ivanovo Calico, the Museum of the First Soviet, the House Museum of the Bubnov family, and the Museum of Dmitry Andreyevich Furmanov (in the town of Furmanov). The Museum of Industry and Art is the main building and is rightfully considered one of the best museums of provincial Russia. The museum’s grand opening took place on December 26, 1914.3
