The History and Art Museum of the city of Arzamas was established in 1957. It is situated in the former house of titular counsellor, pharmacist Alexander Moskvin on Sobornaya Square right in the heart of the city.
The museum collections comprise materials telling about the history of the city and the region, and development of provincial art in the first half of the 19th — beginning of the 20th centuries. Among its exhibits are archeological finds and ancient coins, textile and porcelain, early printed books and icons, works of Arzamas craftsmen, as well as paintings and graphic works by students of Alexander Stupin, the founder of the first provincial school of painting in Russia.
