In 1987, a unique fortified settlement of the Early Bronze Age was discovered in the
Chelyabinsk region. Arkaim got its name from the mountain nearby. Later, similar settlements
were found, and thus a remarkable ancient culture was discovered, which was given a
conventional name “The Land of Cities”. In scientific terms, this archaeological culture is called
the Arkaim-Sintashta Culture.

The reserve focuses on museum, conservation, scientific and educational tourism activities.
“Arkaim” is an archaeological monument and natural reserve, an open-air museum complex with
developed cultural, educational and event tourism. Visitors are invited to take part in a wide
excursion program, archaeological reconstructions, and master classes. Historical and folklore
festivals and events are held annually in the reserve.
