The State Museum of the South Ural History opened its doors to visitors on July 1, 1923. Back then it was called the Chelyabinsk Governorate Museum of Local History. From 1929 to 1989, the exhibition was located in the former Troitskaya Church. In the early 2000s, a new building was constructed for the museum on the site where the Chelyabinsk fortress had once been founded. The grand opening took place on June 29, 2006.
The permanent exhibition occupies three halls and is dedicated to the history, nature, and culture of the Southern Ural. The following spaces are available to visitors: Children’s Museum, Museum on the Roof, Romanov Hall, Rock Garden, Summer Concert Stage, Modern Sculpture Park, and Open World Galler.
