The collection of the Irkutsk Art Museum is based on the collection of the public figure Vladimir Sukachev. In 1870, Sukachev acquired the first works, thus starting the history of the museum. This richest museum collection behind the Urals houses more than 23,000 works.
Russian painting is represented by the works of such masters as Vasily Tropinin, Ilya Repin, Ivan Aivazovsky, Konstantin Makovsky, Vasily Surikov, Ivan Kramskoy, Alexey Savrasov. The museum funds contain icons of the 15th — 19th centuries, sculptures, drawings and prints by famous masters, as well as a rare collection of pre-revolutionary Siberian porcelain.
