The Khanty-Mansiysk State Museum of Fine Arts is one of the most recently emerged museums in Russia. It was opened in 2010. The museum merged two monographic collections: The Memorial House and Museum of Vladimir Igoshev, a People’s Artist of the USSR, who settled in the region in 1950 and worked there, and the Gallery-Studio of Gennady Raishev, a Khanty-Mansi painter and graphic artist.
In 2011, the museum moved to a new eclectic style building designed by Sergei Goryaev, the author of large-scale mosaic panels at the Maryina Roscha Subway Station in Moscow. In the same year, the Rarities and Art Treasures collection of the Khanty-Mansi Generations Foundation was transferred to the museum.
At present, the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions of Russian and overseas artists.
