The museum is located in three districts in the north of the Rostov Region and in the historic center of Rostov-on-Don.
The museum is based around the concept “A Novel Under the Open Sky”. While traveling across the reserve, a visitor may get the feeling that they are revisiting Sholokhov’s books because the museum’s exhibits include hamlets and stanitsas where the characters of the writer’s novels used to live, and the main exhibition is the nature of the Don region itself.
The museum includes 17 buildings open to the public, natural landmarks, and sculptural compositions. The protected area of the nature reserve takes up almost 40,000 hectares.
The museum offers a wide selection of guide programs, tourist trails, learning activities, and workshops.
