The State Museum of History of Literature, Art and Culture of Altai was founded on September 8, 1989 in Barnaul, based on the literature and art collections of the Altai Regional Museum of Local Lore.
The museum houses many unique exhibits, including such valuable artifacts as the documents and personal belongings of Nicholas Roerich’s family, works dedicated to the writings of Vasily Shukshin, Georgy Grebenshchikov’s manuscripts and letters, Feodor Chaliapin’s and Georgy Potanin’s autographs, early 20th century silk theater posters, and rare musical instruments.
Currently, the museum’s collection features over
90,000 items. The exhibition complex includes 12 themed halls reflecting the
history and culture of Altai from the times of the Scythians to the present
day.
