The museum in the city of Muravlenko was opened on February 12, 1993 at the Raduga children’s and youth center. The workers collected exhibits and historical documents together with the schoolchildren of the city. There were four sections in the museum: the Nature of the local region, the Ethnography of the region, the History of the city’s development and a section dedicated to the owner of oil wells Viktor Muravlenko.
In 1998, a museum of local lore was created, and the museum at the “Raduga” joined it. In 2002, the employees organized an expedition to an archaeological site near Lake Etto, and in 2003 — a paleontological expedition in the Tyumen region. Since 2006, the museum has begun to cooperate with artists and artistic studios of the city and conduct educational work.
Today in the museum you can see permanent exhibitions dedicated to the history of the city, nature and ecology of Yamal and the life of the indigenous peoples of the North.
