The branch of the Pavel Dogadin Astrakhan Art Gallery was opened on October 19, 1993. The museum is located in the former Polyakov’s apartment building, where Velimir Khlebnikov’s parents once lived.
The exhibition is based on the “Khlebnikovs Collection”, a gift to the city made by May Miturich-Khlebnikov.
In 1977, an exhibition was held in Astrakhan, where Vera Khlebnikova’s paintings and graphics, Velimir’s publications, copies of rare photographs, and other items were displayed. Then the idea of establishing a house-museum was born and it took 16 years to fulfill it.
The house still keeps traces of the cozy life of a patriarchal family and at the same time — literary, scientific, and artistic symbols of a “breakthrough into the worlds of the future.”
The museum’s library consists of the works of prominent researchers of Velimir Khlebnikov’s work from different countries — both scientists and creators.
The museum hosts excursions, youth art projects, exhibitions, author’s presentations, literary studios, international and regional competitions, “word-making games”, virtual trips, and classes for children.
