The Memorial House-Museum of Vladimir Aleksandrovich Rusanov was opened on December 25, 1982. The house that belonged to Rusanov’s mother, Lyubov Dmitriyevna Rusanova, later Sokolova, was transformed into a museum. Vladimir Rusanov spent his childhood and youth in this house. The building is located in the area of ancient Kursk streets. Merchants, small traders, railway employees, and workers used to live there. Rusanov’s house and the surrounding area still have the atmosphere of the old Oryol.
The museum’s exhibition is dedicated to the life
and work of the internationally recognized scientist, outstanding traveler, and
polar explorer of Novaya Zemlya. In addition, the museum houses many exhibits
dedicated to the exploration of the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as materials
illustrating the life of the pre-revolutionary Oryol.
