The House-Museum of G.V. Chicherin opened on December 12, 1987 as a branch of the Tambov Regional Museum of Local Lore. It is located in the former manor house of the retired Russian diplomat Vasily Chicherin. The one-story house with a mezzanine imitates in wood the stone architecture of the first half of the 19th century.
The funds of the museum number more than four and a half thousand objects, of which more than five hundred are memorial. Among the most valuable items and collections are furniture and books from the library of Georgy Chicherin at the People’s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs, personal belongings of his mother Zhorzhina Chicherina, archives and personal belongings of his niece — composer Sofia Chicherina. Memorial exhibits were donated to the museum by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his descendants, friends or relatives of the Chicherin.
