A branch of the Astrakhan Art Gallery — the Boris Kustodiev House Museum — was opened in 2002 to display a collection of the artist’s works in a town mansion of the late 19th — early 20th century, which was once owned by the Moiseev and Zlobin families. The museum displays part of the collection, which includes 206 authentic items.
The collection was formed thanks to the gifts from the artist and his family, as well as purchases from private individuals and transfers from the State Museum Fund and other museums. The museum has five main halls and a separate exhibition hall. The works of Pavel Alekseyevich Vlasov, Kustodiev’s first teacher, are also exhibited.
The museum staff is engaged in
the study of the life and work of Boris Kustodiev (1878–1927) — a Russian
painter, graphic artist, book illustrator, sculptor and decorator.
