The Bolgar Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve is the world’s northernmost significant site of medieval Muslim art of building and Bulgarian-Tatar architecture of the middle of the 13th-14th centuries.
It keeps artifacts that tell about the ancient states of Volga Bulgaria and the Golden Horde, their culture and way of life. They are rare handwritten and printed books, collections of ancient coins, original paintings by Russian and Tatar artists, as well as products of medieval artisans: jewelry, ceramic tableware, glass products, fishing equipment and weapons.
The Bolgar Historical and Archaeological Complex was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2014.
