In 1911, an agricultural museum was opened in Boguchar, but a few years later it was transformed into a local history museum. Initially, the exposition occupied the second floor of the People’s House. During the occupation, the Nazis looted the museum funds, but in 1943, immediately after the liberation of the city, local residents reconstructed the museum.
In 1954, the museum was closed down and disbanded; however, three years later the Boguchar residents, piece by piece, recreated the collections. Most of the exhibits were donated to the museum by private owners. Enthusiasts worked free of charge and during their free time on the restoration of the former Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whereto the exposition was moved in 1982. In 1988, the Boguchar District Museum of Local History was granted the status of a state museum.
