The museum was opened in 1989 in the apartment where Ivan Dmitrievich Sytin spent the last seven years of his life (1928–1934). The idea of its creation belongs to the children of the publisher — Dmitry, Anna and Olga. For many years, bit by bit, they collected samples of printed publications of Sytin & Co and carefully stored their father’s belongings for future generations.
The exhibition presents unique artifacts: documents, printed publications and works of fine art. All of them chronicle the life of a book publisher who devoted more than half a century to providing the printed word, affordable and high-quality, to the people. He delivered books, newspapers, calendars and much more to the most remote corners of the country. The life of this man reflects the Russian history of the late 19th — early 20thcentury. The museum’s collection preserves the memory of the most important historical events which Ivan Dmitrievich Sytin personally witnessed and took part in.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
