The exposition ‘Russian art from the 18th to the early 20th century’ presents a broad section of Russian art over three centuries: from parsuna portraits to masterpieces of the peredvizhniki movement.
The museum’s collection includes romantic landscapes, academic canvases, ceremonial and chamber portraits of representatives of the nobility, realistic plein air art. The exhibition presents works by Russian artists that came from the collection of the Russian Museum in the middle of the 20th century — among them are works by Ivan Aivazovsky, Arkhip Kuindzhi, Konstantin Korovin, Ivan Shishkin and other great masters.

A separate section is devoted to the genre painting of the peredvizhniki. Vasily Perov’s painting ‘Sermon in the Village’, Ivan Gorokhov’s painting “At the Bed of a Convalescent” — all of them reflected the essence of the time and revealed the typical characters of their contemporaries.
