November 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Russian and Soviet artist Ivan Silych Goryushkin-Sorokopudov, an Honored Artist of the RSFSR and a teacher at the Penza Art School. To commemorate this occasion, the Penza Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition featuring the most comprehensive collection of the artist’s works in the country. The museum’s collection includes approximately 200 paintings, watercolors, etchings, and drawings.
Visitors to the exhibition will encounter an array of landscapes depicting monasteries and the vibrant, multi-colored domes of cathedrals and churches, alongside portraits and historical compositions that celebrate the life of pre-Petrine Rus’. Additionally, the exhibition features the artist’s personal belongings, as well as rare documents and photographs.
The name of Ivan Silych
Goryushkin-Sorokupudov is closely associated with Penza, where he lived from
1908 until his death in 1954 and taught at the local art school. During his
time in this city and its suburbs, he created many of his best works,
continuing the traditions of the Russian realistic school.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
