The Museum of Tray Painting History at the Khudoyarov House features the largest and most diverse collection of lacquer painting on iron. The museum displays the works of the lacquer workshops of the Khudoyarovs, Perezolovs, Dubasnikovs, Golovanovs, and Obukhovs. It often hosts exhibitions dedicated to Nizhny Tagil tray painting, including solo shows of contemporary artists.
The exhibition of the Khudoyarov House also reflects the history of lacquer painting on metal in the 20th century: from the decline and vanishing of traditional craftsmanship in the first half of the century to the active revival in the 1970s and 1980s.
The exhibition details the resurgence
of traditional Nizhny Tagil quick tray painting and explores the work of the art
historian Vasily Alexeyevich Baradulin, the artist Agrippina Vasilyevna Afanasyeva,
the local historian Ivan Abramovich Orlov, and the Emalposuda (Enamelware) factory
which promoted the revival and development of tray painting. The museum also
houses works by contemporary artists created in various styles and genres.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
