The Art of Palekh exhibition showcases the art of Palekh artists in all its diversity: from ancient icons to modern experiments with lacquer miniature.
The museum’s collection contains paintings inspired by fables, songs, and epic tales, as well as miniatures depicting important events in the history of Russia and portraits of historical figures. The visitors will see the works of the founders of the Palekh lacquer miniature—Ivan Golikov, Ivan Bakanov, Ivan Vakurov, Aleksandr Kotukhin, Ivan Markichev, and artists of the following generations—and thus follow the development of the original Palekh style.
A separate section is dedicated to the most valuable icons that formed the basis of the Palekh style, including the Akathist to the Savior, Resurrection — Harrowing into Hell, hagiographical icons, and ancient Menaia.
