The ‘Russian Art of the Soviet Period’ exhibition describes the formation of various art movements in the USSR. The visitors will learn how the achievements of the Russian avant-garde were adapted to Soviet ideology. The exhibition also explains how Socialist realism was established and was later replaced by the minimalistic austere style and the subtle lyrical paintings of new generations of artists.
The museum houses pictures by Yuri Pimenov, Pyotr Konchalovsky, Samuil Adlivankin, and many others. Many of the images from sculptures by Ivan Shadr, which can also be found in the museum, were put on Soviet banknotes.
The artwork of famous Ural painters is a large part of the museum collection. Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts takes great pride in having the ‘1918’ painting by Misha Brusilovsky and Gennady Mosin that sparked arguments all over the Soviet Union in the 1960s.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
