The “Merchant”s Drawing Room of the Second Half of the 19th and the Early 20th Centuries” exhibition is a recreation of a stateroom in a merchant’s city residence. Drawing rooms similar to this one saw the warmest and most home-felt evenings, where guests played music, recited literature, drank tea, and socialized.
Rooms intended for receiving guests had comfortable and beautiful furniture, including gaming tables, where they could play cards. Their small elegant tables were covered with magazines, while walls were adorned with photographs, paintings, and mirrors. During that period, rooms were lit with candles and kerosene lamps.
In our collection, you will find popular interior items of the turn of the 20th century. Among them are antique tableware and candlesticks, a phonograph, a player piano, furniture of various styles, as well as other pieces of decoration. Almost all exhibits of the merchant’s drawing room were made between the 19th and the early 20th centuries.
